Got through Eden Prime all right, but the first fight on the Citadel, against two assassins was impossible for me, because Kaidan and Ashley just dropped dead after a bit of enemy fire, the assassins kept regenerating health and shields, and Shepard didnвЂ™t have enough crowd control options to stop them from firing. I tried, and failed, to get through ME1 on Insanity with a fresh character.

I donвЂ™t think I ever played ME1 on Insanity, so I canвЂ™t really speak to that. YouвЂ™re going to die, quite possibly a lot, but you should always know why you died and what you can do better next time.Д®dit: oops, misread this as advice for ME3. I think youвЂ™ll find that Insanity converts MEвЂ™s combat system from something that can be played as a somewhat standard shooter to a more RPG-like rock/paper/scissors system. Other than that, only pull the trigger if youвЂ™re going to hit an enemy and have fun. Intitially youвЂ™ll want to put the bulk of your points in one skill with a point here or there in other abilities for utility as needed/desired. You should be using the appropriate squad skills on cooldown as the situation dictates, and youвЂ™ll have a much better idea where points should be assigned than the game (or at least you should!) From what I can tell, the auto level up system sprays skill points around in a haphazard fashion which is not very helpful on Insanity. Careful consideration in forming your squad can make the difference between a mission being hard and a mission being nigh impossible, especially early on when you donвЂ™t have many ability points to spread around.ДЄnd it probably goes without saying but disable the squad power usage and disable auto level up. As an Adept, I typically bring a soldier type with the ammo augment that shreds whatever type of shielding weвЂ™ll see on the given mission, and then a second biotic type who will help me set up singularity -> warp combos. The second thing is figuring out which squadmates abilities complements yours. Unless medi-gel rains from the heavens in ME3, you canвЂ™t afford to use it every encounter and youвЂ™ll probably want some in reserve for boss fights. There are rare exceptions to this rule but for the most part youвЂ™ll be spending a lot of time in cover waiting for shields to recharge.

The main thing with Insanity is if your shields arenвЂ™t up you should be in cover preserving your health bar.
